third person singular in the present

The following is part of the lyrics of Stevie Wonder's song, "For Once in my Life" (video clip and full lyrics)

For once in my life I have someone who needs me
Someone I've needed so long
For once, unafraid, I can go where life leads me
And somehow I know I'll be strong

(Listen to the song and see if you hear the "s" sound attached to the verb)

In the simple present tense, the verb of the third person singular takes an "S". We say "I need help," but "She needs help."

3rd PERSON SINGULAR (SIMPLE PRESENT) + VERB + S
